Taking you immediately down a tangent - I'm asking for your help w/ a SFish plot problem requiring real science. The brief problem description is actually posted on Eric's blog because, well, I thought of asking for help while I was commenting there rather than posting on my own. Sigh. Anyway, any contributions you could make would be appreciated!
Shoot - now that I read more closely, I realize I'm not even sidetracking John's post - I'm sidetracking CW's! I'm sorry, CW. I'm a highly discourteous commenter and have hereby earned some nasty comment karma. (John, feel free to move/delete me if you'd like.)
Jeri - that's pretty hilarious, becuase as a pilot, I think CW knows more about meteorology than I do. I'll look up some things, but I hope CW has the time to answer, too.
The first thing I thought of was fiddling with the thermohaline current.
That's a very interesting question and you are officially disabused of any fear of bad comment karma.
It's such a good question I'm going to do a whole post about it.
Thanks for the idea!
Also: John you've got be beat on the Baltics. I have lots of friends from that area and have always been very interested, but haven't actually gotten to go. Also I've been to a couple of spots in Russia, but I'm really not well travelled there - but it's an all or nothing check-block that makes the map look -very red-

Wow, I've been somewhere CW hasn't been!

Wow! All I can say is that this map is a true inspiration to me! Too bad that I'm not going to catch up until I retire...
